BINTULU: Participants from 14 countries will be showing off their kite-flying skills at the 4th Borneo International Kite Festival until this Sunday at the old airport grounds. The largest contingent of participants is from Indonesia, with 35 entries. There are 105 entries overall. Apart from Indonesia, the other foreign countries represented are Australia, Singapore, Brunei, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, China, France, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines and India. Participants from Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Perils and Penang have also registered.
These participants will conduct fantastic acrobatic demonstrations with their kites. The national-level competition will see participants from Johor, Penang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Selangor, Perak, Kelab Mas and Sarawak fight it out in the air. Kite workshops for students, a business exhibition and nightly entertainment will also be held to add to the festivities. The Borneo International Kite Festival, which began yesterday, is organised by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and marks BDA's 30th anniversary as well as Sarawak's 45th year of independence within Malaysia. |
