Organiser of Kite Flying Feat Wants To Enter Record Book; Tuesday, August 5, 2008 |
BINTULU: The organiser Book of Records (MBR) for “The Most Number of Kites Flying Simultaneously” on Aug 17 at the old airport site here has confirmed receiving 1,750 registrations.
The organiser said 1,000 more had yet been submitted from the various schools here.
Revealing this to The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday, BDA Public Relations section publication manager Halim Mathew said: “The attempt to hit our target (flying the kite) was initially to have some 1,500 people flying their kites on Aug 17, but the number of entries received exceeded the target”
This is a fabulous response by our people here. The registration for participation is still open until 2.45pm on the day of the event,” he said.
The registration kicked off early last month, said Halim, who had promised to distribute free kites to the first 1,000 participants.
“These first 1,000 participations will be given the free kites when they have signed at our registration counter, which will open from 1.30pm until 2.45pm on the day at the location.
“Anyone who signs his or her name that day will be given a free kite provided he or she is among the first 1,000 to sign his or her name,” he said.
He said there would also be entertainment by local artistes during the registration exercise.

“The attempt to enter the MBR is to start at 3pm on the day where the space of the old airport would witness thousands of kites flying simultaneously for 20 minutes,” he added.
The event would be witnessed by officials from the MBR from Kuala Lumpur where video clips, to be taken from every angles, will be shot for positive evidence.According to Halim, among the witnesses on the event day would be Senator Pau Chiong Ung, and the organizer would also invite the local assemblymen as well.
“We are also hoping to get more participants from our own people here to join us fly the kites,” said Halim, adding that the aim was not only to achieve the target but also to have the most grand kite flying event.
Those interested but yet to come and collect their participation forms are advised to drop by at the BDA’s public relation officer on the ground floor of Wisma BDA during office hours.
To a question, Halim replied, “Each and every participants will be given a special certificate of attendance in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of BDA, which will have the MBR logo.
“This certificate is unique in that the MBR logo will be on it. We can never issue a certificate anytime we want, especially with the MBR logo on it,” said Halim.
On top of that, he said there would be some 200 special gifts worth RM 20,000 to be won at the lucky draw. |
