The Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) is attempting to enter into the Malaysia Book of Records for “The Most Number of Kites Flying Simultaneously” between 1.30 pm and 5.00 pm this coming August 17, 2008 at the old airport ground.
The target to fly 1,500 kites has been endorsed by the Malaysia Book of Records, which requires that its official and at least two assemblymen or minister witness the attempt.
The organizing chairman of this year’s “Pesta Gudi Sarawak”, Tuan Haji Mohd Bohari Kipli urged kite enthusiasts to participate in the attempt to boost the chance of achieving success. The entry forms are now obtainable from BDA’s Public Relation Department at the ground floor of Wisma Bintulu and BDA offering the first 1000 registered participants a free kite each.
The participants who are outside Bintulu can get the entry form either from Department of Youth and Social Development or Education Department or the form can be downloaded from www.bda.gov.my.
Other government departments and agencies and the Federation of Bintulu Chinese Registered Association are also involved in the organizing the event.
The creation of record is to be organized by the Malaysian Book of Records and have to fly the kites simultaneously within 20 minutes and the attempt has been fixed at 3.00 pm on August 17, 2008.
The event is the highlight of the two-day Pesta Gudi Sarawak, which is scheduled to start on August 16, 2008 at the venue. Participants are eligible to win some 200 mystery prizes and lucky draws, and each of them will be given a certificate of participation. – Source: The Borneo Post, 2 July 2008.
