This annual event was first started and held in Bintulu in the year 2005. This year this event will be held on the 18 - 24 August 2008. The idea of organizing this event was first muted by the Honorable Chief Minister of Sarawak.

Bintulu was chosen as a venue after considering its great potential after the old airport was closed down and making the basic infrastructure left behind and ideal and perfect site for the event. Its location that is not far from the seaside contributes a perfect wind blowing direction enabling kites to be flown consistently. Since then, it has become an annual event and successfully attracted large crowd witnessing and participating in this event. It has also attracted more kite enthusiasts locally and all over the world to come to Bintulu.

Ever since 2005 when it all started, the number of participants as well as spectators have been rising each year as more became aware of the spectacular and beautiful kites from different parts of the world!

So make a point of bringing the entire family for an enjoyable and fun day at the Borneo International Kite Festival.
